Two Dollar Popcorn

Sometimes the way things fall into place can become crazy scary. I am continually amazed at the way creativity works and the wonders of it all. You get a seed and plant it in the back of your mind, and pretty soon some rain falls and your seed sprouts. It grows so quickly it blossoms before you know what happened.

Such is the case. I had a seed in the back of my head and a couple of conversations provided the necessary rain to make that seed sprout. What started as just an observation has grown into a fresh exhibition idea, which in just a matter of days has taken on a life of it’s own. The pieces of this plan falling perfectly into place – from idea to a submission proposal which excites me.

It was a simple question asked in an artists group “what are some exhibition ideas you’d like to see”; and before I even had time to think about it I blurted something out. Afterwards I couldn’t quit thinking about what I’d said. So I sat down and wrote an curatorial statement for that idea. Then some calls for entry landed on my desk, and now I’ve got a whole exhibition proposal package put together ready to pitch. The excitement I feel for this project gives me confidence it will happen. What’s more the fruit from that one little seed may propagate itself, with the project reaching further than just an exhibition.

Like with any really fresh creative idea I want to lock myself in a room and work like a child exploring the world for the first time. What about this? What about that? Bouncing around from one thought to another.
