Aurora Borealis
Time has a way of getting away on me. Often things which I think happened 2 years ago really were more like 4 or 5 years ago. So I won’t pretend to remember how long ago it was when I took a workshop with Canadian artist Lyndal Osborne on developing your artist’s materials. I came away with a lot of good information, but one thing that has always stuck with me was when Lyndal talked about making submissions. She had talked about the cover letter written for one in particular; and what struck me was the personal connection between herself and the gallery director. I remember thinking at the time that it would be terrific to get to a point in your career where you know the people in charge of these galleries and can include a personal note with your submission.
Yesterday I spent the better part of the day working on submissions. I got to the last one of the day, and guess what? I had reason to include a personal note with my submission. That workshop so many years ago hadn’t even occurred to me until I had finished and was putting everything together, and then out of nowhere I remembered being back there feeling totally overwhelmed at not knowing anything about having an art career beyond being passionate about creating images. So today I just want to tell you, if you are sitting there feeling like you are in the dark, totally overwhelmed at where to start your art career……..you will, with determination, perseverance and passion, get there!

Well, I’m a bit embarrassed to tell you there’s not much of a story behind this image. It is the reflection of our driveway in the carport window. With the exception of a color overlay, there’s little post processing or anything else done to it. I’d like to have had some exciting story about how difficult or special this image is, but the truth is I just happened to be looking at the right spot at the right time.
